Before embarking on any type of paid online promotion you should consider the following issues, or rather, find answers to the following questions:
1. Do you know your product/service?
Do you know everything about your product or service? Do you know its advantages and benefits? Do you know what type of product or service sells best?
2. Do you know your customers?
To be able to start promoting, you need to be able to describe in a few words the profile of your ideal customer (“buyer persona”). Know who your product/service is aimed at. Know your customer profile (gender, age, income, geographic location, etc.) and know their needs.
3. Do you know the market for your product/service?
Do you know the industry you work in? Do you know if it is a saturated/unsaturated market or what the supply-demand ratio is? Do you know what percentage of the market you hold for your product/service?How old is your business in the market?
4. Do you know who your competitors are?
What is the level of competition in the market? Do you know your competitors? Can your product/service differentiate you from them? What are your strengths?
If you are sure you know the answer to the above questions, then you are ready to start promoting your product/service.
Next, we’ll give you some tips that will help you promote on online advertising platforms (if you’ve never used online promotion before or if you’ve tried it but it didn’t work).
First of all you need to follow/create an online marketing plan, because “You can’t build a house if you don’t have a solid foundation”. Where do you start?
A. Competition analysis
So, as I said earlier you have to do market research. An analysis of the competition to see how you could position yourself with your product/service and find out what strategies they use.
B. Setting targets
You need to know what the object of the promotion is. What do you want to get out of online promotion: leads (potential customers), sales, calls, online exposure, increased website traffic, etc.?
C. Strategies
If you’ve set your goals, then it’s time to strategise. These will help you to achieve your goals. When it comes to strategies you need to consider several approaches:
Target audience
You need to establish who your target audience is. What age ranges, what gender (male/female), what is their buying behaviour, what are their interests, what area do they live in, what devices do they use etc.
Budget and promotion period
It sets the maximum available budget allocated for promotion. You can set a daily or monthly budget. Costs differ depending on the promotion campaign and obviously the platform chosen. You can pay for keywords, banner views, video views, app downloads, etc. You also need to choose a time period for the promotion. Tip: too short periods of time may not give you relevant information.
Message
In order to address your potential customers properly you need to understand their needs. The language used in advertisements must be age-appropriate. You need to speak in the customer’s language to be able to receive the information correctly. Images have a greater impact, and if they are combined with text, they have an even greater chance of success.
It’s good to test several campaign/advertising options to find the ones that will achieve your goals.
Promotion platform
Haven’t decided yet on which online platform to promote your product/service? We can help you choose the right one. In the article Google Ads vs. Facebook Ads you will find a comparison that can help you choose between two of the most powerful online platforms: Facebook and Google.
D. Setting up the tracking systems
Online platforms allow the collection of data about website visitors.
In order for this data to be recorded, tracking systems must be implemented. These systems allow you to track people who visit your site, see their behaviour on the site, identify their profile and record data such as clicks, pages visited, time spent on the site, etc.
E. Analysis and optimisation
After a longer period of running promotion campaigns, an analysis should be carried out. The data will be interpreted to see if the Google Ads or Facebook Ads campaigns have helped to achieve the objectives or not and optimizations can be made. The information we get from the analysis can make you change your goals.
This analysis is done on the basis of data collected by the platforms through tracking systems.
Last but not least, you should also take a look at your website/blog. The information should be up to date and, last but not least, optimised for mobile.
Why? Because users are spending more and more time on their mobile devices. The fact that your website is not optimised for mobile can be a factor that can get in the way of achieving your goals.
